Hello :)

Hello and welcome I'm Dellene and it's so good to have you here :)

I'm a 53 year old  Australian woman living in Melbourne, I have two grown up children and have just returned to full time study. the return to study is part of my happy, healthy new me makeover.

Happiness has come frequently throughout my life but the healthy part has not been that  frequent. if I'm honest not since early high school. in my late teens I developed an unhealthy and destructive relationship with alcohol which lasted until I became sober in january 2017 at the age of 51.

Once I stopped drinking I thought I was on my way to good health and at first I was but then I started to replace the drink with unhealthy eating, and  my exercise routine became non existent.  as a result I  have developed many health problems mostly gastric and intestinal related,  I recently had surgery to remove my gallbladder and part of my liver. though I've recovered from the operation my health and fitness is at a low point.

Today I have decided there are no more excuses just solutions. I intend to document my journey towards a happy and healthy new me sharing the highs and lows, the good and the bad.  I hope you will join me as I start my challenge to get fit and healthy :)

The Reality

The reality is that today hasn't gone as well as I wanted..... first I ate chocolate,  a lot of chocolate, skipped meals and basically picked all day....hmmm however looking back over the day I did do some gardening, mopped the kitchen floor as well as do some toning exercises so all was not lost. usually I would just focus on the negative but not any more! Exercising with arthritis

Having been diagnosed with the onset of arthritis I was concerned that it might stop me from beginning an exercise program.   Rather the opposite is the case and exercise is encouraged for those suffering with arthritis. For my cardio I find brisk walking and using an exercise bike to be both comfortable and the most benefit to me. weight training without discomfort was a harder struggle until I found this article from The Arthritis Association of America weight lifting with arthritis For those with arthritic knees I have found these exercises to be helpful  exercises for arthritic knees Make sure to check with your health care professional before starting any exercise program.
